On August 2, 2018, Sasin Management Consulting (SMC), led by Ms. Pruittiporn Nakornchai and her team, presented the Muslim tourism strategy at a Meeting of the National Tourism Policy Committee No. 2/2561, chaired by Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister, at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Pongpanu Svetarunda, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tourism and Sports, and related parties, both government agencies and private organizations, attended the meeting.
The theme of the strategy that SMC developed is “inclusivity”, or to build a tourism environment that is safe and Muslim-friendly, i.e. providing Halal food and services, family-friendly facilities, places of religious practices, good sanitary systems, and good communication and cross-promotional activities. All of these would be an effort to propel Thailand forward to become the top destination for Muslim travelers. According to the globally recognized Global Muslim Travel Index rating, Thailand is currently second to Singapore.
The Committee has approved the strategy and assigned specified related parties to carry the strategy forward.
